Martial Arts

For the ASD and Asperger Community

Why Dragonfly Martial Arts for Autism?

"There are many advantages for martial arts training for children on the Autism Spectrum. It builds self-confidence, is rule governed and progressive, is respectful of the child, teaches in a structured way, and gives the child a sense of accomplishment."
- Fred Volkmar M.D.
Yale University School of Medicine, Chief of Child Psychiatry, Yale New Haven Hospital

About James

4-Time ISKA World Champion

With hopes of serving the ASD and AS community through the sport of martial arts ISKA World Champion James Sang Lee draws from championship experience and shares this knowledge through DragonFly ASD, Inc. through an extensive video archive designed for students, parents, teachers, and therapists to participate in martial arts and strength training exercises. James connects the martial arts systems of Jiu Jitsu, Kung Fu, Karate, Tae Kwon Do, and Kobujutsu weaponry giving participants a well rounded understanding of systematic martial arts, strength and balance training, and practical self defense.

The Stuntman/Fight Choreographer was born in Madison, Wisconsin on June 12, 1971. The Chinese/American had performed all his life in music, the arts, and in sports. Although a student of the American Academy of Music, his first love was martial arts. Lee’s background in classical piano and violin was overshadowed greatly by his championship training from martial art masters Wei Kong Koo and Sang Kee Paik. Lee went on to win 4 ISKA World Championships in a row on ESPN and multiple national martial arts championships in the '90's. His discovery in 1993 by directors/producers Doug Schwartz and Michael Berke of Baywatch along with wrestling star Hulk Hogan led to his notoriety as a film and television villain. A member of the Kahana Stunt Team, Lee is best known for stunts, character villains, and fight choreography in particular in the areas of martial art weaponry and firearms.

"Having been involved in martial arts for over 35 years and being the winner of the ISKA World Championships on ESPN excites me, but what excites me even more is giving kids with Asperger's Syndrome and Autism tools that will help them succeed in life. I hope your kids benefit greatly from DragonFly's resources and I am honored to be part of this journey with you."

- James Sang Lee
